Step 2 says to add things not on the ingredients list (greens, superfoods) and Step 5 mentions nuts. What kinds of greens? Do you mean the acai powder when you say “superfoods”?

      Hi Catherine,

You are completely correct! We do not list greens in the ingredients but I can suggest spinach or baby kale for this recipe here if you have any on hand. As for the superfoods, yes, we are referring to the acai powder. Thanks for the clarifying questions! We hope you enjoy! Warmly, Maddy

  • Must the milk be dairy? Could one use coconut milk or almond milk?

    What other milk would suffice?

      Hi!
You can use any sort of milk that suits your taste buds or dietary needs. Coconut milk, almond milk, cashew milk, oat milk are all great alternatives to name a few.

      Enjoy!
      Warmly,
      Maddy

Hi I am a diabetic and thought I would love this recipe but noticed it has a banana in it, bananas raise my sugar levels really high, even a half one will raise it, so can it be made with out the banana and if so what can replace it? Most fruits with the exception of berries will raise blood sugars, they are natures sugar bowl, thanks

Hi Barbara Thanks for posting your question! A fair proportion of the Members we work with are either diabetic or struggling with pre-diabetes or high blood sugars. The vast majority of them say they are able to enjoy our Homemade superfood smoothies without seeing a spike in their blood sugars. The reason is because our Homemade superfood smoothie recipes feature 3 nutrients which are your best friend as a diabetic: Fibre, protein and/or fat. When you enjoy your healthy natural sugars or carbs together with fibre, protein and/or fat, then they will generally avoid the blood sugar spikes you would typically get when eating those sugars or carbs on their own – and which you would get with commercially brought smoothies & juices which are normally sugar bombs! This recipe for example, includes fibre from the berries, banana, and acai, plus protein from the yoghurt and healthy fats from the acai and milk of your choice. Try it and test your blood sugars and let us know if you notice a spike! If so, I recommend you simply add 1 Tbs of mixed chia seeds, flax seeds and/or psyllium to the smoothie which should fix the issue. Alternatively, you are welcome to make it without the banana if you are still worried and prefer it that way. Whatever works for you – we’re just here to share info & options. warmly Anna
